Crowns & Bridges

Beautiful and Bridges Can Restore Your Smile!

Sometimes more than a filling is needed to repair a tooth. If a tooth is severely decayed, broken or missing, a crown or dental bridge may be what you need.  When a full denture isn’t required, bridges are a durable replacement and are often a more affordable alternative to dental implants.

Why do I need a crown?

You may need a crown because of:

  • Broken or cracked teeth

  • Extensive tooth decay

  • A tooth that has had root canal therapy

  • Large metal or tooth-colored fillings that weaken the remaining tooth

  • Teeth that have large fillings that are breaking down and cannot be refilled

  • A permanently stained or discolored tooth

  • A misaligned or misshaped tooth

Dental Bridges

A dental bridge is used to fill the space where a tooth has fallen out or been removed. Gaps between teeth can cause chewing problems. If even one tooth is missing, other teeth may slowly shift out of place. Shifting teeth changes the way your teeth fit together. Shifting teeth may cause a poor bite that may make your jaw sore. Your teeth may become harder to clean which can lead to tooth decay and gum disease. It is important to fill gaps between teeth and a bridge is one way to accomplish that. A typical bridge consists of a filler tooth that is attached to two surrounding crowns. Once complete, this bridge structure is bonded into the mouth.

Is a Bridge the Best Option?

In many cases, a dental implant is preferable to a bridge when you have missing teeth. An implant can help you preserve the bone in your jaw as well as your bite, and will look and feel completely natural. Come in for a consultation with Dr. Wych, and discuss the options that would work best for you.

Bridges, Dentures or Implants?

Dr. Wych has the experience to recommend the right option for you.

For some patients, fixed bridges or removable dentures are not the perfect solution to missing teeth and often bring with them a number of other problems. Fixed bridges often require the cutting down of adjacent healthy teeth, and removable dentures may lead to bone loss. Recurrent decay, periodontal (gum) disease, and other factors often doom fixed bridgework to early failure. For these reasons, fixed bridges and removable dentures usually need to be replaced every seven to 15 years, compared to an up to 25-year life span for dental implants.
